In my opinion...
In my opinion, people who own a 5070 are going to say they don't like the 5170 to protect their purchases. Some may do so consciously because they fear losing value on their 5070, while others may do so unconsciously for similar reasons. It would be nearly impossible to tell which ones actually do like the 5070 better than the 5170, since, despite any claims to the contrary, they are biased by their previous purchase and by a need to protect that purchase. Ultimately, people want to justify their choices and purchases.
The price seems to be a factor for a lot of people as well; this likely plays into 5070 ownership bias as well, but it also seems to bother people who don't own a 5070 as well (though not as much...).
Looking at the 5070 and 5170 side by side, I had no doubt which one I liked better. The metal numbers cut in half on the 5070 did not look right to me. The placement of the minute and second's circles were too centered for my tastes and made the dial seem stagnant to me. The 5170 also had a professional and classic look compared to the 5070, which in comparison looked messy because of the awkward cutting in half of numbers. Right away I liked the 5170 better, so I decided to buy it...
