Patek Philippe

If I may....

After reading the whole thread,I had quite a bag of mixed feelings......

First and foremost, here we are again,Patek forum and pricing/value discussion,it seems that the the connubium will never be eradicated from Patek discussions, not even amongst connoisseurs .

Furthermore:there is no point to make comparisons with other goods, personally Ive done that exercise before,of course it doesn t add up,of course its mad,but that is the reality of the matter.
Watch brands charge what they do because they can and there is a market for it.People around the world have a lot of money to spend and depending on whats hot right now they HAVE to spend that cash, hardly earned or not.

Before it was antiques, then modern art then watches ,so what?Would you pay 50 million for a spot painting? Some people do....stupid?I dont know, all I know is MYSELF and WHATS GOOD FOR ME.

It s up to any of us either to play or not the game.
Dear Kari I refuse to believe that ,as you stated,we are victim of some sort of brainwashing commercial marketing evil scheme, you seem like a clever man,I am sure you make your own decision consciously .I agree that we become more anesthetized to huge prices but thats the long and short of it.

Personally I know exactly what I am spending on watches,I rationalise it and make a CONSCIOUS DECISION to make the purchase or not, like everything else in life.
It seems strange that we apply this way of thinking only to watches, what about travels,restaurants,wines,cars,clothing.....
Many things give pleasure in this fleeting life ,and if the price is right FOR ME ,well be it,otherwise I pass.

Bottom line is:what about the pleasure that owning fine objects or doing fine experiences gives, what about concentrating just on the personal or objective intrinsic value ?
Some people wont spend 500£ for a meal, some people will save up for that...to each his own and whatever makes you happy.

Related to watches:what about purchasing something for life attitude, instead of constantly thinking "in case I need to resale.. and whats the future value" etc...what about getting the best out of the experience of owning something for life?

My personal attitude is to consider dilapidated all the money I spend on watches,I consider it all lost,I buy what I like and for  what I think is a correct value for it but most of all I want to enjoy and love what I collected.

As long as they put a smile on my face and make me feel happy....like an advert say....priceless.....
