Everyone has their champions,their favourite.
The Patek commercial phenomenon is regardless the horological content.
The marketing strategy was superb and it reflects in their collectability,value,premium etc....
Take another example,Rolex,or better vintage ones....are they the 'best'because a little red dot make the same submariner 40 50K more expensive?I dont think so , the price that they reach and their intrinsic quality are 2 separate issues.
The equation "if its the most expensive its the best" is not applicable,,,quite the opposite if its cheap it cannot be the best ...
Again there are other brands,including independents,whose watches are at least(personally speaking) at the same level of Patek if not higher,but their commercial value is nowhere near Patek,does that make them lesser watches?,,,again 2 completely different matters.
I appreciate your love and admiration for Patek,you are a true ambassador,but the reason must definitely lie in their intrinsic qualities rather than the price they reach at auction or on the secondary market or their RRP increase.
I d love you to share and enlighten people like me who haven t warmed up totally to the brand yet.

While the car is depreciates every year and after 5 years holds 30% of its initial value, 5270 will loose 10-20% maximum of its value. IMHO

Go and buy i.e. 5170J, open the parcel and sell the watch next day. My guess is that over 35% of the value is gone if you sell the watch to a shop and if you are lucky to find a private buyer, "just" some 30%. And Patek Philippe is holding its value well....
