Hi All, As written in Patekphilippecollector’s 5131G post, I mentioned that there is a chrome like dial. Many of you could not understand what I was talking about. Hence, after searching

for a long time in my photo album, I found it to show you what I meant.  Hopefully the picture is worth more than a thousand words!!  Which version do you like more and why ?

Original post by Patekphilippecollector

Personally, I like the non-chrome version better because I find the chrome being to bright and covers the usual enamel colors, but I am biased because mine is the non-chrome version. 🤣

Cheers,

Gordon

Non-chrome version

I prefer the non-chrome version. The chrome takes away the allure of the cloisonné center because it’s shines too much under some lighting conditions

Great post. I love these sorts of threads.

Are you sure this isn’t simply lighting causing the difference you are calling the chrome effect? Strong light at a slight angle can cause all sorts of effects. For sure there are multiple colourways as I have often seen with the 5131R’s. ...

I wonder if the chrome effect you have witnessed is caused by a thinner than standard layer of enamel?

So for instance showing more of the base gold disc through the enamel and hence giving a metallic reflection. I have seen on some Ulysse Nardin Tellurium dials evidence of the base gold disc showing through, some even appear to show a texture to the base ...

Does this chrome version only exist in earlier samples of 5131G? I prefer the non-chrome version as you, since the colours of non-chrome are more vivid. While the chrome version looks more vintage, with colours appear to have faded away. Perhaps the chrom...
