Hi ๐ All, I recently met with a long term lurker who
has a wonderful Patek collection ! ๐
Lurker brought his steel 5980 (a wonderful reference which is highly sought after) to play with my 5131P, and the play date involved prosecco ๐พ being consumed !
While relaxed and intoxicated, we discussed 1) current challenges in getting allocated anything โน๏ธ, 2) how our collections have been enjoyed & worn while their likely values have appreciated ๐, and 3) what we should do to try to get pieces we desire๐.
Do you prefer 5980 steel or 5131P and why?

If you are average collector, AD probably have to justify to brand why they gave you 3-4 watches per year etc, whatever the number defined. If youโre very tip top 1-x % like our you know who, probably donโt matter ๐

Lurker is a private and discrete person who enjoys his time pieces which are enviable watches ! We need to find inner peace with our watch collections. Also, sharing is caring ๐

As stated in my reply to Clueless above, for 1: market has moved substantially from where we started our collections, we just need to live with it. For 3: BEG, BEG and BEG !

Certainly I prefer your 5131P due to obvious reason, it is more classy. If I would put on a thick nautilus, my choice will be 5990, due to the additional travel time function. Cheers, Henry
