Golden Ellipse in WG ref. 3738
is nowadays offered with gray dial. Mine is the old version with blue dial but the size is the same.
Don't pay any attention what collectors like and what collectors don't like. There are also fashionable watches that might be "in" today but very much "out" next year. Golden Ellipse is not very "in" at the moment but soon again smaller and very slim watches might be fashionable again. Keep in mind that 3738 is less than 6 mm thick.
Did you notice that 3738 and 5712G are both sharing the same 240 family movement? The one used in 5712G belongs to the "small complications" and has roughly 100 parts more than the basic 240 used in 3738. But these small complications are nearly doubling the price of 5712G compared with 3738.
You are comparing two very different watches and both look very good on your wrist. Please let us know which one you took. I like both of them very much but 5712 being a sporting watch is in my opinion on its best made from steel.

I am not sure I will go with the calatrava ones perhaps they look as a bit too much for me. I had my shirts mostly done with regular buttons so perhaps I will just take the ellipse ones and see but never say never :) They should have more stock ..at least...

because I have in all of my leather strap Pateks the folding clasp with Calatrava Cross. Think how cheap it is: just buy a pair of YG, RG, and WG Calatrava cross cuff links and you can have an unlimited amount of alligator strapped Patek Philippe watches!...

I would say that Golden Ellipse is like any
35-36 mm dress watch. It feels on the wrist like my 5120J. The watch does not feel too small because it's so slim and well balanced. Best, Kari

For the 5127 It was easier to spot that it has the new PP seal I am curious to know if the ellipse I bought has the PP or the geneva seal. Nothing mentioned on the certificate of origin so I guess the only way to know would be to open it ? :)

NOT to worry you as this little detail is just "academic" and I am more fond of the Geneva seal anyway, it is still possible that it has got the Geneva seal. BUT I did not see a Geneva seal for a long time on a new Patek movement. Best Moritz
