5711 blue opinion
Anyone planning for a 5711 blue this year? I am giving up on my AD and started to look at Grey options. Huge price difference but AD is not an option. I have the feeling they are also selling to grey from the back door. Anyone bought 5711 from grey?

Iconic watch, no question about this.
Unfortunately the current market has led to more polarized opinions on this watch in recent years. The design was always polarizing BUT the recent years market prices, hype and more broad commercial awareness of this watch seems to have made people’s opinions even more strong.
But for many, myself included, it’s an icon. It’s also very wearable, super comfortable on the wrist and the relative thinness of the case and bracelet (relative for the sports watch) make it very versatile.
If you can’t get one from your AD or any AD and you really want the watch that much then go for it. If you are OK with the market price I don’t see why not, most of what we buy loses a lot of value immediately and so paying double retail (or whatever the market is) for a 5711 is no different than paying retail for a Datograph (and realizing the market price is less than half that).
For those like myself who have always paid through the nose for Rolex and vintage Rolex itjust fair market.
For those with AD access do it for the rest of us you pay what you your are willing to pay this is not investing it is buying for the pleasure. I know it does not sit well with most here to pay over retail but try buying vintage Daytona.
I personally think its worth the money even on grey market.
I personally find it much more wearable than all watches at the same price point, because its so thin and light and when you pay 50k at your ad, you might get complications you dont even need. So go with the 5711 and enjoy the watch.

I guess the real question is: Would you still want a simple 5711 if it were readily available at all ADs? If yes, then you *really* like it and, to you, it might make sense to pay 70k ;-) [nt]

like it enough and are willing to pay a premium for it, then by all means get it on your wrist.
I have purchased Patek from the secondary market previously. The process went well as I was careful in each step.

I believe we all have a reason why we like a certain watch.
Personally I never bought any hyped watch over retail, mostly because I don’t feel that I love any watch that much, and with patience I believe you can get most hyped references if you really want to.
But there are some exceptions to the rule and that I think is the 5711.
The story is that I’m on the “list” for a white dial 5711 for about two years at one of the top AD’s in New York.
None other AD wanted to take my name since the waiting list is over ten years...
Two weeks ago when I picked up my hyped up Rolex Pepsi from him I inquired about the Nautilus and he informed me that as of now forget about getting one because Patek allocates two maybe three pieces per year , and lately the allocation comes after a phone call from Patek with the name of the person who will pick up the watch, the person wasn’t even his client!!!
So the chances of getting a 5711 at retail are getting slimmer by the day.
If you like/want the watch and money is no object go for it and enjoy it for whatever reason you like it , being that you wanna belong in the “I got it” group or you just like the design and history of the watch.
Lastly, never care what others think of you, especially for wearing a certain watch...

Mine is due towards the end of this year
and I would not buy from the grey market out of principle. For me, it is vital to be patient when waiting for a watch even if takes years as it makes securing it that much more satisfying. Imagine a hypothetical situation where everyone was patient when wanting to acquire a watch - there will be no such thing as inflated prices in the grey market!! In addition, one does not just buy a watch when one buys a Patek; one buys the entire experience. 
What if it would cost euro 85k in 2022?

But I can tell you I once made a mistake with this watch
About 4 years ago list was I believe close to 21k and second hand it was about 30
One of my friends wanted one but could not get it from an AD and told me he would pay the 30k
I told him it’s insane and a 50% premium is insane
He did buy it anyway
Good for him cause today he can get 55-60k for the watch he only paid 30
So it’s difficult
Today it is expensive and probably too expensive... but what if it adds another 20k the next 2 years
Impossible? Probably... but that’s what I thought in 2016 too

... 5711 prices have come under a lot of pressure in recent months. Many of them collecting dust at all the grey market dealers. Will be much cheaper than today in the next 12 months, I am nearly sure. Also, there were many AD deliveries of 5711 recently (at lesst in Europe).
Overrated 5711
I had one I purchased from an ad about 10 years ago. After a couple of years I tired of it and sold it. In my opinion it is the most overrated watch on the market. Many different opinions on this watch. Gl w your choice
Market price is the real price, retail doesn't mean much if the product is not really available at retail
5711 at market price is simply not for me. It might even still be a good investment, who knows? But I'm not a watch investor.
don't pay the premium
Seeing that the 5711 is on "burnt mode" now with the Hype crowd, it's more fun to find "unHyped" diamonds in the rough nowadays. The "premium" some buyers pay is to fund the supercar lifestyles of the grey market dealers. Someone's always paying for someone else's vacation.
Life's too short to play "patty cake" with Patek and the dealers. Plenty of other choices to look at such as LF, Journe, VC and even steel Rolex sports models to an extent.
Looking back, I do think about the time I passed on the 5711 and 5167 at the AD.
Stay on the wait list and ...
find some other pieces for the time being. There are many other great options including other Patek models. It’s not worth paying over the retail because of the hype. Just my 2 cents.
I have bought 3 Nautiluses in past few years!
Both dial colors of 5711 and a 5800 and an Aquanaut; all from AD and at a discount; this was few years ago. Sold them all eventually; never really liked the style.
I think it’s the most overhyped model in recent years with essentially a feeding frenzy going on.
I agree with one of the posters that market is softening and if you are on the wait list then just stay put!

I agree with you what you said. This trend is insane and without logic.
If one is out for a steel high end sports watch, there are so many good options from VC, AP, Breguet and now ALS that this trend is bound to reverse soon.

To fit in with your friends, or pick up hot singles who find wrist jewellery attractive?
To own a particular design that you love?
To buy into the You Never Own A Patek Philippe buzz and brand?
To enjoy a sense of craftsmanship or other intrinsic value?
To buy high and hope to sell higher?
That’s a value judgment for you to make.
I would like to think I buy pieces which combine intrinsic value or craftsmanship - in some combination of the case, dial, movement, etc - with a design that speaks to me, without getting lost in branding, perceived prestige, or trendiness. My own value equation would put a high emphasis on the lovely design of the Nautilus but I’m not a huge fan of the movement, and have never been convinced by modern Patek at its ‘lower levels’ as an item of great rarity or superior craftsmanship, particularly vis-a-vis the company’s pricing (I know, I know - I will probably be called a heretic for saying this).
So for me, yes I would probably buy a Nautilus at retail, although I think the list price is already a bit high. If I really wanted one I would wait for my AD to come through - but I wouldn’t pay over retail for it.
