professional moonwatch transition in works, so I was told...
Visited my local Omega boutique over the weekend since I was in the neighborhood and they are most friendly to me. My associate shared these tidbits with me :
To date, this boutique has only received 3 of the seamaster bond titanium watch, all for "VIP"s. They do not expect more until after the new year. They say that given the movie has been pushed back to circa April 2021 (from 1st pushback of November 2020), Omega is delaying delivery, much moreso to the USA, whereas many pieces have been delivered already in Europe.
Ditto for Ed White stainless steel 321 movement Speedmaster, where none have arrived at this boutique.
Of most interest, Omega has halted production of the current classic steel moonwatch with 1861 movement and twisted lugs. Omega will continue to ship and distribute its warehouse inventory until exhausted. But moving foreward, the classic moonwatch will be discontinued. As its replacement, Omega is currently working on a new case design which will solely house the 3861 movement, and the watch will somehow be marketed as the "Mars" watch, the next generation as NASA now looks to a Mars mission.
I have not seen this written up before, and it remains to be seen what the future will hold. But my local Omega associates are very open and forthcoming, have no reason to disseminate rumors, and have never openly divulged privileged information before authorized to do so.
I thought the community might find these statements as interesting as I did.
Cheers, M
