I got the email notification from Omega CH as well and...
...well after I saw the price I had to shake my head in bewilderment. Who is their target audience for this watch? The über rich will probably go for RM, AP, or even Hublot for a "haute horology" piece. Meanwhile, the average Joe Schmoe won't even entertain the idea of buying a watch at that price point. Yet, isn't the Aqua Terra an entry level line for Omega? So many contradictions here.
Maybe their intended customers for the watch are PGA Tour golfers?

55g is light, but let's not forget that Rado (another Swatch Group brand like Omega) makes automatic LE watches in their Hyperchrome Ultra Light line that feature light weight (68g) ceramic/titanium monobloc cases for under $3k. And the original Sinn EZM1 with the titanium case weighs 61g.

The Weight is Over?
Just saw this new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra light weight sports watch, only 55 grams. The watch also features Omega’s first Ti movement. Everything looks promising, no date, nice hidden crown.... until I saw the price....really!? Is it a typo? ...
I agree, initial cost of R&D can be high, resulting in this...
It’s just me, I’ll rather spend this amount on a heavier Lange 😬
I wonder what the development costs were for the titanium movement . . .
. . . and how many watches Omega will have to sell to cover them. ;-)
Consumers to absorb this development cost...not sure the vast majority of Omega audience is ready...
Unless this is smaller independent companies but a conglomerate? We’ll see ...

I do not see however how all of this would be relevant for the typical Omega customer ...at that price point.

HK $ 48,600 is US $ 6,194 (maybe OK). Singapore $ is US $34,991 (not a chance). Zimbabwe $ is US134 (bargain!) Where to buy? Best Clive

a lot to like about the movement and lightweight design here...
but at that price point there are a lot of serious competition. Read that some golfers might be spotted with this in the upcoming Masters Best regards
Maybe that’s the high level plan...get golfers first, then tennis stars...
then Track and Field etc Eventually make it popular and can lower the cost with economy of scale to benefit us 😊

As already mentioned, RADO introduced the Hyperchrome Ultralight back in 2016, at 56 grams, using a mix of SiN ceramic and hardened Ti on the exterior, and aluminium bridges for the movement., and all for $2500 ish. Most of the R&D has therefore been done...
I like this Omega a lot.
And it may be my first watch from the brand. It ticks a lot of boxes for me. M4
Omega has achieved a few objectives with this piece...
1) We're now talking about Omega (even if we're baffled by the price) 2) Omega's other pieces now seem more reasonably priced 3) Omega may get much press in the sports word over this lightweight piece (even though other manufacturers already precede Omega...
You’re right...they just shocked a lot of collectors and the press...
Their 1948 SeaMaster in Pt sold out for the 70pcs each model so I assumed at least 140 well heeled collectors will be ordering these.
Finally, Omega can now move into Richard Mille territory.
Just add a fruit motif on the dial for next year.

I don't know how to interpret this but I totally agree with your view of what watches people will choose. Maybe this is a transition to making the brand more upscale...one step for Omega, one giant leap for Swatch
There are a lot of thing I like about this watch too...
but I just cannot see myself (just me) paying this amount without some complications or higher end finishing etc.
It seems their strategy is making lots of variation of watches, models to capture many different customers, then once the customer is "in", naturally he/she will start looking...
so I think another version is highly possible.
