Funny to think . . .

. . . I probably ran into him back in the days when we hung out at the same nightclub on the Sunset Strip. Cozy used to date one of the waitresses at the Rainbow Bar and Grill; they were an item when he died. I've no memories of having met him, though.
The drummer I was on friendly terms with was Randy Castillo. Unlike just about every other metal musician I've met, he was the humble sort; we exchanged greetings and casual conversation often.
So why didn't he make my list? Mostly because I was never a fan of the bands he was associated with. Moe (Maureen) Tucker probably wouldn't make anyone's list, but the sound of her band . . .
. . . wasn't bad at all.
Same for Gerry Conway; hardly anyone's ever heard of him, but the bands he backed - Pentangle, Fairport Convention, Cat Stevens - are all right at the top of my list.
I was fortunate enough to take in a performance of his over thirty years ago, at the Ronnie Lane benefit show in LA*.
Just heard that Cat Stevens is touring again, for the first time in almost forty years. Fingers crossed that Alun Davies, Jean Roussel, and Gerry Conway will be there to resurrect my other favorite band.
* Billed by promoters as 'The Yardbirds Reunion', featuring Beck, Page, and Clapton, plus many more legends.
