No problems with my 339
perhaps the only thing i notice with the finishing is with the tiny screws holding the "lugs" in place. I don't think that the screws are ceramic and are perhaps just painted or coated...so they may be prone to chip. I love my 339, but it wasn't always that way. I recently mounted it on an ammo strap that rekindled my love for this piece. it seems to be a common theme with my panerais...i think i'm over them, then i change the shoes and it's like a brand new watch!
as for future collectibility, I think in 5-7 years, if panerai as a brand doesn't dilute itself too much in general, this watch will be very desirable. I remember buying my 127 in 2004 and it was just sitting in the case and people were trying to sell them left and right due to size. but i confess i ended up selling it for almost 3x what i paid in order to finance other watches. truth be told, I find that even though i made some money off the fiddy, i've probably lost even more with other trades. at the end of the day though, all the money whether it's more or less, ends up going into other watches again anyway!
I love wearing my 339, and I look forward to appreciating it more and it appreciating more

Winding issue
I too have tried reaching the end while winding and have not been successful. After a few hundred winds the watch started making odd sounds. This was a big issue for me so declined buying the watch. Besides the winding issue the case discoloration problem...

Yesterday picked up my 399. P2002 in fact has protective feature not to overwind the movement, however it is not covered in the manual, very strange, it is a very useful feature. great watch, very happy.

What happens if you keep winding past that sound ? Can you damage the movement ?
you can wind past the "end" and not hurt the movt
the clutch disengages/engages when you have wound the barrels as far as the springs can go, the clutch won't let you physically wind the spring anymore, while you continue to turn the crown
There is no....wrong...direction
if you wind it forward, the clutch makes sure you can't....damage (you hurt people, damage watches/movements) the watch. If you wind backward, you can do it for decades and still won't...damage....the watch. I'm not aware of any other "widing" direction, ...

There's no issue. Wind until you hear the clutch kick in. Then you can stop
You can't overwind it, but seems no use to keep winding indefinitely. It will NOT stop. Just enjoy it.
