the winding itself....DOESN'T stop....as such. The movement itself, engages a CLUTCH (there's a distinct clicking, audible to the ear) that tells you you've reached the max even though, as I said you can still wind the crown. I've had the 339 for a long time already...
There are other models that do the same (PAM 197 with JLC movement) and others that come to a stop (PAM 373).

wind the watch a few hundred times. A knowledgeable sales should have told you that P2002 movement have a clutch that 'prevents' people form overwinding it.
To me that's an added safety feature and SHOULD be considered an advantage.

Dear
First of all, thank you for your interest in Panerai. The PAM339 has an 8 day power reserve, since it contains our P.2002 movement. The winding should eventually stop, but it will take quite a bit more time to wind a watch with 192 hour power reserve.
Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

if you wind it forward, the clutch makes sure you can't....damage (you hurt people, damage watches/movements) the watch. If you wind backward, you can do it for decades and still won't...damage....the watch. I'm not aware of any other "widing" direction, are you?...
They build them smart, nowadays, don't they?
Ciao - Sergio
