Equation of Time on a Panerai: well done or an absolute mistake?
Feb 07, 2015,12:47 PM
At the 2015 SIHH, Panerai unveiled a Luminor 1950 and a Radiomir 1940 with an Equation of Time display.
It is obviously not the first time Panerai uses this complication since it was already displayed in the Astronomo dial several years ago.
This complication provoked a lot of strong discussions between the watches fans on several media. Basically, the main criticism was the inconsistency between the complication and the purpose of the watch.
When I saw it, I was not chocked at all: after all, it is a way for Panerai to use a complication with a linear display. But honestly, this watch wouldn't be on the top of the list of my fav Panerai.
The questions are as follows:
- do you find the use of this complication appropriate?
- is Panerai trapped in this aesthetic approach?
- shall Panerai propose a new style of watches in order to host this kind of complication?
- how do you see the future of Panerai? is Panerai able to re-invent itself?
A lot of questions but I think that these new watches gve the right opportunity to discuss about these topics.
Thanks for your inputs!
