It's a reasonable topic.
I do read you, and I know how you feel about the date. And I can think of a good handful of watches I would like better if they omitted the date.
But for many of us, the date function is a good inclusion, so they key is doing it discreetly or perhaps better said in a way that does not detract from the rest of the dial. This Montblanc certainly goes about it correctly, and perhaps even enhances the design (and we probably cannot say that about too many date functions).

It doesn't most often ruin the dial ( which is my main concern ), but it seems added to the dial. While, in this case, it is part of the dial; doesn't ruin anything, at the contrary, it enhances the beauty of the Watch, its coherence. A revelation for me....

I understand that the date window often destroys the aesthetics of the dial. IMHO, one of the most beautiful watch designs which fell to this trap was the Urban Jurgensen Perpetual. The way that the windows eat into the numerals...just can't get over it. ...
The Skeleton is a cool watch, for sure, but I still prefer the version I posted.
