Well done, JLC. And as usual...well done Nicolas!
I very much appreciate your insight and personal comments - we dont need to be in love with everything new (better not...this would be a disaster for our wallets)
Personally i like the Amvox 5. The combination with the World time is useful and the design is well done - consistent with earlier AMVOX II models. I very much like the fact that JLC moved to cermics and replaced DLC coating - it adds value in my opinion.
Yes, no unique chronograph mechanism - vertical trigger - anymore, but then we had a nice number of great AMVOX II types, and i agree with Nicolas that this is just a new chapter in the AMVOX line. This is the true strenghts of the "Grande Maison" - they have so many movements and innovations that JLC can afford to put the vertical trigger mechanism aside for a while.
Overall, if i was pressed for a purchasing decision, i would still prefer the AMVOX II over the AMVOX 5. It is more unique and has the same great looks - just a phatastic watch.
One more comment about the number 4 - based on my modest Chinese language skills: yes, 4 is a number to be avoided because the "si" (=4) has the same pronounciation as "si" (=death). Just the tone is different. Numbers are anyway more important in the the Chinese cultural context so yes it matters. It has relevance to the rest of Asia as well even they speak different languages - there is a strong and very influentual Chinese mimority in every country in south east Asia. And finally in terms of relevance of China to the industry: i learned recently that China became the biggest market for Swatch group last year.
Cheers,
Stefan
