Philippe Dufour is still kicking. So are many others.... and the list goes on. They are there, and they have been for a decade or more now... And when they are gone... I would bet (and I have, by buying their work) that they will set up service to follow them... this is their life's work... they will not let it simply disappear... get your indie!!! There is NOTHING like an independent watch--even at the 'entry' level, such as Habring... (although Habring is not entry level to many!) they are the finest watches in the world. So say I anyway. And even when they are entry level... their spirit and connection to the watchmaker makes them stand apart from all brands. In my collecting 'career', the Independents have meant, by far, the most to me. Would you worry about a great work of art after the painter is gone? If it fades, tears, is damaged? I often think about the servicing of watches and what the future will hold... but then think do I love the piece enough to warrant any future problems.... normally the answer is yes so I just save up and buy the piece. With advancements in the technology ...

watches have not changed that much in the last few hundred years, lets face it the tourbillon was invented in 1795. A simple watch, whether made by eta or MOser should be able to be looked after by a good watch maker, even more complicated ones should not...
