Hi Daniel, I guess the common reaction here was one of legitimate disappointment (especially, but not only, by the fans of this brand), *because* of a promising/interesting Indie that evidently got lost after the departure of its founder...

If you mix that with some obvious fatigue when people see yet another brand jump on the steel sports watch bandwagon, then of course you won't get many positive reactions.... ;-) For this "modern Indie," which by its own nature is expected to offer great designs and/or movements to its fan base, I think it's unquestionable that at least the former aspect is missing in this watch.....unlike in *its own* earlier production that had created a good following I think this aspect and the obvious monetary considerations behind it, rather than whether the watch itself is "nice" or not, were the main source of disappointment here. Of course, the merely aesthetic aspect is also an important consideration (and personally, I don't like this watch at all....), but this is now mostly subjective territory ;-)
As for comparisons with other brands, though they are always difficult to make, I am frankly with you that a relatively similar argument (even if the brand's positioning is quite different) can be made for the steel Odysseus -- no doubt that ALS also jumped into the same bandwagon with it (I believe it was even its first steel model in regular production! ;-), and also that the Odysseus finally helped create some hype for the brand....alas, I think nobody will question that!
As for the green 5711/1A, let's only give it some credit that it was just the third iteration in 15 years of an iconic reference made by a historic brand, whose earlier models of the same line went back 45 years (and the brand itself another 137).....hence a *very* different situation from all the modern Indies that pop up on a daily basis!
BUT, to be always honest, the 5711 green is definitely an entry-level watch, and especially in the context of Patek itself, hardly the pinnacle of horology (or art, or anything else). In fact, I *never* asked one to Patek for my private collection, even if I know very well its *monetary* value! ;-))
Cheers
