Don, I suppose this comes back

to the never-ending 'in-house" debate. I fall on the side that the base caliber does not matter as it's whats done that counts. There are some new in-house chrono movements which do not have the reliability or even feel of the workhorse 7750. I would not consider these even though they're supposedly from the ground up proprietary calibres.

On the other hand, the argument that just as we can tell time by looking at our cellphones, having a base caliber that's common takes away the romanticism and to some extent the meaning of what haute horology is.

Not a copout but this could be the old vanilla and chocolate debate.
