Independents

Actually this is quite simple....

Hi,
the two mainspring barrel arbors are directly coupled through the crown wheel (on theinvisible  bottom side this crown wheel is
connected to the winding stem). Ifone click, of one ratchet wheel is locking, the other ratchet wheel is locked as well - it would require quite some
fine tuning to get both clicks locking at the very same point - or let's say a very "loose" conection of the crwon wheel, i.e. lot's of gear lash.

If I remember correctly Journe refined this design in his Chronometre souverain by simply using one click on the crown wheel directly, thus locking both barrels with one click (could be wrong with this, but anyway this approach does exist as well).

BTW, this doesn't occur on your watch only,  at least those I've seen hadthe same effect.
Check closely and you might see that it's possible to see the click locking on the left barrel and beeing loose on the right - a slight adjustement/ through winding the stem could engage the click of the right barrel with the left one beeing a bit loose - thus making for actually double the increments of clicks for one turn of the barrel arbor.

So, you already had answered your own question smile

Lawrence, that's you right? - all the best to you and your family for the new year!  A bit late I know smile

Best wishes!
