"The Waiting Is the Hardest Part" – Part II
Apr 14, 2022,17:26 PM
Please follow the link for Part I of this journey.
4 months. A mere 4 months.
That is the short period of time that has elapsed since I posted Part I of this journey - thereby commencing Part II.
Part II... well, this is the leg that will last. Part II is the wait.
I am used to waiting (cue jokes about virginity), but that does not mean I am good at it. Specifically, most of my work clothing is bespoke, and I get that clothing made in a location necessitating my travel, meaning that, after 3-4 fittings, it can be 2, 3, even 4 years before I pick up my orders. However, the length of time does not mean that I obsess about minute decisions and details any less. Often, I will carry fabric swatches with me, so that I can see them in different lighting. I will order numerous fabric books, and will go back and forth over different shades of pale blue. I cannot help myself.
Alas, this approach to clothing has bled into watches. However, this has been particularly fun! And part of my fun with this hobby is sharing my experience.
Given the vast number of choices I have with the watch that I ordered - a Voutilainen GMT-6 - I am having a lot of fun brainstorming. I've got a year and change before I need to start making decisions, but I want to look at mockups and determine - is this what I really want ?
It is easy to get carried away with details. Going back to clothing, it is very easy to choose just one too many. From the fabric, to the buttons, to the button stance, to the waist suppression, to the shoulder line, etc. - it is so easy to make a mistake.
In this thread, I will share my mockups, and my inspiration - and of course, welcome any input!
At this point, my leading option is this one - with a platinum case and a salmon dial, and I am leaning towards the roman numerals over arabic numerals:
Of course, real salmon and platinum looks much more alive:
My inspiration for the watch is this one which, depending on the day, may very well be my favorite!
There may be additional flip-flopping. There may not.
But I know I will continue to have fun with this!
