Volker..... my response to you

When you join a club, you do so in the knowledge that the club has rules and that your willingness to join that club implies that you accept those rules. In the case of this forum, one of the well-known rules is that members are asked to treat other members with civility and in a polite manner. In fact, it is explained that the approach should be "as if meeting someone for the first time at a cocktail party." Now, implicit in that statement is a code of behaviour that you and all other members have agreed to when becoming members. I don't think there is anything contentious in what i have just said.
The issue with the Miles/MJ23 post was that a member had just posted a watch he was obviously very happy with and in a polite way wished other members a good weekend. Miles is a good friend of mine. But on this occasion he did not act well. If Miles had met MJ23 at a cocktail party for the first time and MJ23 had said...."i am so happy with my new watch, I got it today." And then Miles had replied..."That has to be the most boring watch on the planet." Such a scenario would appear rude and out of place. Just as it is in this forum. There is a time and a place for deep debate. As Russell996 pointed out, MJ23's post was absolutely NOT the place to do so. It lacked manners.
Having said that, there are plenty of opportunities for members to engage in heated debate. But it should always be polite and civil. Those are the rules.
Regarding your comments about Imran, as a lawyer, you will know that context is everything. You say you preferred the old days when the previous Moderator allowed almost total freedom of expression. For your information, that era was characterised by more online racism and bigotry than any in this forum's history. Since Imran has been Moderating the forum, that racism and bigotry has virtually vanished. Of course there will always be isolated instances and your highlighting specific events fails to take into account the bigger picture and context.
I hope that helps.
