Horological Meandering

The silence or rattle noise made by the governor is something to be considered. Some brands have mastered that aspect more or less for some time. From my hearing experience Patek, Chopard are very good at that. On the Full strike from Chopard I know

very well it is inexistent. VC is also on the better side. JLC on its models after the charming red gold reverso minute repeater has developed efficient governors. Whereas with Breguet it can be awfully loud which remains a mystery as they developed a specific loudless governor with magnets for its musical model but not on its old tech MR’s. Then there is the chiming rhythm that can be fast or slow with huge differences whether hours, quarters or minutes are struck and in the transition phases. There again the Chopard full strike managed to keep always the same rhythm even if the tempo of the rhythm might be considered too fast for some people. No two MRs ever sound strictly alike. That is why you really must hear the MR watch you want to acquire. Do you like it or not. The impression remains very personal as different listeners might have different opinions. Is the sound of the MR makes audible? Some are so quiet you almost hear nothing especially when there is some background noise. There normally Patek, VC, Chopard and AP since its supersonnerie technology are very good. Then there is the richness of the sound influenced again by the case… Cathedral gongs might sound louder but can be too resonating for some liking.
