Horological Meandering

That's amazing!

Seems like we both started with IWC MRs!  Mine had big governor noises and was VERY SLOW.  Mine took 25-27 seconds to do the 12:59 sequence.

I'm so glad that you actually use your MRs.  The 5078 remains one of my favorites.  It's very clear, great tonality, and a good volume.  I have not heard the 5078 with cathedral gongs.  But I have heard the 5074 with cathedral gongs and the 5078 with normal gongs together in the same room at the same moment and I liked the 5078 more - but this is not a fair comparison since the 5074 has a perpetual calendar mechanism attached.  I'll have to hear a 5078 cathedral someday.

The JLCs do have good volume in their own way - due to the sapphire glass.  But sometimes, in certain rooms or in certain conditions, the sound that is amplified isn't always the right sound.  Sometimes it also depends if the watch is on your wrist or in the air or on a sound board.  Obviously the sound board sounds the best.  But JLCs, the sound varies more on the conditions.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!  And it's nice to meet another fella who started the same way - although I think you're further along the MR process than I am at this point!
