Typical for the genre. Substitute anything collectible whenever you see the word "watch" (cars, art, etc.) and you'll find the same article has been written before. Of course when competition and wanting to be first results in a breakthrough technical achievement, an invention, or business model that makes life better for humankind, perhaps then these traits that are being mocked are acceptable? The author ignores the multiple other reasons one might collect timepieces; wanting to preserve the past, admiration of a marvel of mechanical engineering, or merely wanting to possess a thing of beauty. I doubt these are gender driven desires.
