Not taking this the wrong way at all. In fact, I agree with you!

I personally own a watch or two that is now worth more than what I think it's worth and 2-3 times what I paid for it many years ago. And I've kept onto that one and others despite the market conditions because I really enjoy that piece. I've been told many times to sell and buy the piece back when the hype is finished, but I haven't. I agree, the watch is worth more than it should be. Logically, I should sell. But some emotion within me is preventing me from profiting from this short term opportunity. Who knows, I may regret not selling in the future!
There are some individuals who would consider selling at a certain price, especially if they have overweight collections. Sometimes people's tastes change. People sell for all sorts of reasons.
I am currently representing two time only watches that are priced sky high, perhaps they're even the ones you mentioned. They belong to my neighbor who has been a long-time watch collector and appreciator. But he's selling for his personal reasons, I won't go into detail other than to say it's a very noble reason, which is why I agreed to try to help. I don't know if the watches will sell or not, but on my neighbor's behalf, I hope so. And I'm going to do what I can to help him.
I'm friends with one of the biggest watch collectors in town. We used to go to the watch shows and parties all over town and people all admired what he was wearing on his wrists. Some were downright jealous, "how can he afford to spend millions of dollars on watches each year?" and "he's lucky to be able to get such pieces" were whispered. Oh boy, if only they knew what plagued this man who they thought was the luckiest guy in town. Jealousy would turn into pity very quickly if they knew half the story.
Oh! Did you hear about the Philippe Dufour time only watch that sold for $1 Million? That's out of reach for almost everyone!
