Considering the amount of micro-engineering that goes into them, I find the price of simple generic ebauches astonishingly low.
I do not own any artisanal timepieces, but it is not difficult to imagine the amount of highly skilled labour that goes into them, let alone the creative component. Since I have not visited a manufacture yet, I can not comment whether my watches are value for money or not. The "market" seems to think some of them are, after all, of some value. Art, market value considerations, all are valid reasons.
However, I guess that ultimately most of us spend what we can and feel ok about it because we simply value our own time and labour and we can appreciate how much of others' creativity, time and labour goes into a fine watch.
