From ugly duckling to beautiful swan : the transformation of ETA Unitas movements.
I am a big fan of the ETA Unitas 6497/98, one of the most legendary swiss watch movements.
These movements are the base for many talented watchmakers to express their creativity and artisanal qualities.

There is nothing special about the base movement (here a picture of the 6498-2) but the architecture with the wide bridges leaves room for many different finishing techniques.

Torsti Laine certainly does a great job with this movement.
The focus is here on the immaculate finishing and polishing of the various edges.

A watch from a brand that may be unknown to most : Tourby, a small artisanal brand from Germany.
They do an amazing job on the movement ... at a very fair price point.
And the Lapis Lazuli dial is just a beauty!

Those that follow my posts will know how much I appreciate the work from Jochen Benzinger.
The first example is a movement finish mostly focused on the free hand engraving of the various skeletonized bridges.

And the next example is for a fully skeletonized movement cut out by hand (no CNC machine in the process) with rose engine guilloche on all parts.
And there are many more great watchmakers that take advantage of the Unitas architecture to show us their talents !¨
Best,
Gerard
