In this insightful article, jlux shares his journey acquiring a Laine G3, a testament to the allure of independent watchmaking. His detailed presentation highlights the bespoke nature and artisanal craftsmanship that define Torsti Laine's creations. This piece offers a valuable perspective on the customization options and high-horology finishing available from smaller manufactures.
Admiring the work of Torsti Laine since quite a while I finally decided last year to place an order for a G3.
After a wait of +- 6 months it has arrived this week.

I decided for the G3 model as I like the dial contrast between the frosted outer part and the center guilloche.

Many different colour and guilloche combinations are possible : I decided for an anthracite frosting and a two part red gold (not salmon !!) guilloche.

The guilloche is the real thing : hand made on a rose engine ( I believe from Décors Guillochés SA in Switzerland).

Torsti is using the ETA 6498 as a base movement which is then heavily modified and decorated according to high horology standards.
Here again various decoration styles are possible : my choice was for the "classic" frosting with red gold coating.

The quality of the bevelling and attention to detail is top !!

And finally a wrist shot to show that this 40.5 mm watch works well on my 17 cm wrist.
Thanks for looking,
Gerard
