What the hell happened? Is this even real or is something fishy going on?

I like Journe but how is it worth more than a George Daniels or Dufour complication?? What am I missing? Regardless if I had $10m to throw at something for shits and giggles I’m throwing it at SpaceX and Anthropic and hope I hit the next Nvidia.

If you say I'm ignorant, I can confirm I'm not. That's just investing, like shorting stocks or any other way to make money. Or maybe I'm too ignorant to understand how these tactics work. It's indeed curious that talking about money is basically forbidden...

The description says it was number 7 of a 20 piece subscription series. Also you can’t deny provenance has a huge effect in resale. Look at the Paul Newman Paul Newman. Compare that watch to any other Paul Newman ever sold before it. In the case of FFC it...

If I had an extra $10-15m I wouldn’t be buying watches I’m buying shares in companies. That being said the whole auction was frothy. My Kari Inverse that I’m waiting on sold for over a $1m. That’s nuts to me. Is this sustainable and for how long? ...  

It’s a really great watch. But I’m biased insofar as I think Kari’s cases sit really nicely on my wrist. I’m just regretting not going for one when I had the chances. But like many watch regrets this was another where I thought there was plenty of time! W... 

At this point I have just given up anticipating the watch and will go on with life and be pleasantly surprised maybe 5 years from now. You know my regret was not picking up the last allocated T30 because I had just bought the RL PLM, 3 weeks prior to bein... 

Two very different watches though and so it was never a straight shootout. Either one at the time would have been the right choice, and honestly thinking about potential depreciation if needing to sell the Lange was probably the better choice at that time...

There was a lot of overlap between Lange and Journe enthusiasts back then, with the common denominator for many of us being preowned availability of nearly all models at reasonable prices.

…I have the exact same problem looking at changing my car/SUV this autumn. New model, and I don’t want to deal with the manufacturer ironing out the kinks that exist on all new models. Best to wait a year until they figure all the stuff out.

Not all of them. But the handful or so of makers who are deemed historically significant are finally being recognized. This has been slowly happening for several years, so it's not at all a surprise. And we're just at the beginning of this chapter.

But I think it's my view is probably an antiquated one. Art or watches (or sneakers and ipos) society has decided that intrinsic value is not what determines collectability, only what profit can be made on the thing.

because I have a few rare independents in my collection, including Smith, Journe and Voutilainen. One day maybe I could sell them and enjoy the proceeds in other ways.
