. . . is not because we're obsessed with watches. There are other websites dedicated to the same subject, yet our community is remarkably devoted.
I think the main reason people are drawn here is that we're civil to a fault. The operating premise of The Purists, PuristSPro, and now WatchProSite is that of a virtual cocktail party: participants conduct themselves as they would at a real cocktail party. The resulting civility is, in my humble opinion, the inducement that draws people in.
Yes, there are disagreements, but for the most part they're resolved civilly. And when they're not, there's a team of moderators that responds in a respectful and thoughtful way.
My grandmother once said, "Show me your friends and I'll know who you are." (Ok, maybe she's not the first person to come up with that line, but I heard it from her first.) It follows that like-minded people will congregate in the same community. If you're drawn to civil discourse, you'll eventually end up here. Because here it lives and thrives.
