Horological Meandering

Both are nice...but the Speedy for me.

At retail prices it would be hard to pass up the Rolex given the imbedded value of doing so. And I think it's a very attractive watch.

I rarely if ever wear my beloved Sub of 30+ years in favor of a Speedy Pro which is so nice on the wrist.

The Speedy Pro (plexi) is my most worn watch. So easy to grab and go, and I really enjoy the manual winding.

The Daytona also inevitably comes with a certain amount of baggage, so to speak, which is somewhat distasteful to me. That's not the watch's fault of course.

But the Daytona has become one of the ultimate Look-at-Me watches, which I really dislike. It's a sort of perceived social currency that is rather nauseating.

The Speedy, while recognizable, doesn't have that baggage.

And for the post-retail market, the Speedy is absolutely my choice. As a watch, I find the post-retail prices of the Daytona absurd, all driven by the social currency vector.

Cheers,
John
