Horological Meandering

Ah, yes...

...I had considered this and thought carefully about my choice of words. Like yourself, as a lover of fine watches, I have absolutely no time for 'fake' watches, but the watch in question (based on what I have seen) falls into a slightly different catagory for me;

The absence of any branding removes the implication that the watch is an attempt to deceive anyone that it was made by someone it was not, i.e. JLC

The lack of any branding also significantly reduces any suggestion that the actual maker is claiming credit for the design, which of course is very similar to the original Polaris.

Also, the nature of the Polaris as a legendary, historical timepiece makes it easier for me to accept this piece as an 'homage'. Perhaps, if it were a based on a modern, new release then I would think differently.

Finally, I think that in light of the above, it is unlikely that someone would purchase the watch in question with a view to 'getting one up' on JLC, someone of that mentality would desire a fake with JLC on the dial. Instead, I think the watch in question would appeal to someone with a fondness of watches of that period who probably had no intention of considering a JLC Polaris in the first place,

AND IF THEY WERE CONSIDERING A JLC POLARIS, THEN SUCH A PERSON WOULD IN NO WAY DERIVE AS MUCH PLEASURE FROM THE WATCH IN QUESTION AS THEY WOULD FROM THE POLARIS, NOR WOULD THEY EXPECT TO.

As always, just my opinion, I'm sure the holder of the original intellectual property may beg to differ!
