A vie for control?

Rolex acquiring Bucherer will have a lot of implications

- Control on prices to retail consumer.
- Control on who are allocated Rolex.
- (some) Control on secondary prices.
- Overall, Rolex will have more insight on how, who, what, where, when their watches are sold.

That’s big… ...

And now each one will have a beautiful Rolex display area...

...of course, supplying them with actual watches will be the key.

the only Rolexes I see these days...

I believe Bucherer were already the largest Rolex dealer. All the best, Jon

Guessing...

This is so they can cut more ADs in areas where Bucherer has good coverage. That will drive net margins up and effectively cuts the price they paid for bucherer...

I would. And Rolex ends up with very

expensive but empty real estate.

Patek isn't going anywhere, I predict.

Where would they go, in the short term? Bucherer will remain Bucherer, with little change visible to consumers. It's not in Rolex' interest to scare away customers or watch companies, either one.

It's it true that

Rolex owns none of their boutiques? If so, why buy an AD without even owning your own boutique?

To me it sounds like a first step towards moving towards Rolex owned boutiques model.

Even if demand softens a bit, there is no reason to share margins with independent retailers. Now the interesting part is - how does PP feel about their watches being sold by a Rolex owned entity ... I am sure that has been discussed before the acquisitio...

Let’s see . . . Rolex bought a Bucherer . . .

 By: edtonkin : August 24th, 2023-17:11
I bought a Rolex . . . so now I own Bucherer! That’s easy!

LOL!

 By: amanico : August 24th, 2023-17:12

Bucherer also owns Tourneau…

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 24th, 2023-17:15
Rolex then owns 2 ADs. This is getting interesting indeed. Customers also have to buy other brands in their 2 ADs to get a Rolex etc. Brands that both ADs carry will probably like to send in more desirable models to them for selling. Small monopoly brewin...

"Small monopoly brewing"

I am not sure it's *that* small...😉

8 months ago I ordered a Skydweller, not in a Bucherer

shop. My worry (and I think the worry of many people) is that Rolex concentrates the supplies in his new retailer.

A great move by Rolex!! especially here in Switzerland...🇨🇭

The Rolex Boutique in Zürich is managed by Bucherer (and in other cities I suspect) It is by far the best Rolex retailer in terms of availability etc. so it makes sense for Rolex to keep the extra gain. Bucherer also owns many amazing buildings . It fits ...

Way too many times over the past 5 years I have seen Rolex watches that were bought at Bucherer Zurich ended up on Ricardo (Swiss version of eBay) just a few days or weeks later…

 By: LX (Alex) : August 25th, 2023-05:29
Either Bucherer Zurich isn’t paying attention, doesn’t care, is unaware or is complicit. Many times the ads on the auction site would even include photos of the warranty card showing the watches in question were bought at Bucherer Zurich.

I have checked on ricardo I can see some Certified Pre Owned watches and some that might be new but..

 By: christianch : August 25th, 2023-08:23
I think that Bucherer Zürich is fairly careful with allocations. It doesn't mean that they can force all buyers to keep their watches but, almost certainly, if you get a Rolex and a few days later you will not be getting another one. I suspect some re-sel...

I feel waiting list are and were mostly populated by flippers..whenever I see fellow members "thanking" profusely for

 By: christianch : August 25th, 2023-12:37
the allocation I think that something is wrong...but the aim of watch brands to create artificial scarcity and keep the price high works well with many people

I don't see it as good for the consumer

 By: watch-er : August 24th, 2023-20:04
but rather a consolidation away from small locally owned ADs. All in all, it will be harder and harder to get watches would be my guess.

Interesting

Is Bucherer privately owned? That would make rolex quite the large private company. I like this, no public disclosure or oversight- all private. As for watches, rolex is building new factories, I assume they will use those to pump out watches. Not worried...

yes Bucherer is 100% Owned by Jorg Bucherer which is 86 and has not direct heirs so selling

 By: christianch : August 25th, 2023-08:25
was a good move. For Rolex too as they can control the majority of the distribution.

Interesting

Watches of Switzerland down 20% yesterday, their shareholders aren't happy.

Had good experience with Bucherer when I visited Swiss some years ago..

And I bought my DSSD in Zermatt. Just checked Bucherer and Tourneau websites to see what brands are being carried. The “biggest” brand is Patek but only on Tourneau, not Bucherer. This is a huge vertical integration move by Rolex done very quietly. When R...

Honestly, this isn't an unexpected move...

 By: patrick_y : August 25th, 2023-04:58
Consumers don't realize how vertically integrated a lot of brands are (I have so many watch collectors who tell me that they spend millions on watches and think that they know everything because they have so much experience on watches, when they really kn...

Instead of looking at it only from the perspective of ROLEX, try to also look at it from the perspective of Mr. Bucherer. He has no kids nor siblings (to my knowledge)... I think with this move he also wanted the brand "bucherer" and everything what comes...

Now Rolex has higher fix cost

Let’s see what’s their operational profit shall be like when they still have to fake a wait list to lure interest

What should I make of this...

For the industry and as a non Rolex owner?
