The AD you mentioned is the one I have been dealing with. He is a great guy. I have also heard that GO has trained a few master watchmakers at the USA Swatchgroup prestige range repair center in NJ and that they do work on a par with sending your watch back to Germany.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the other watch. It's amazing just how many stories I have seen out there for servicing many reputable brands of watches. It is a sad reflection, on the culture of an organization. One would have thought that the JLC AD you mentioned would have had great clout with all of the manufacturers that they deal with.

As has been noted, one is for fine adjustment of the rate, and the other for fine adjustment of the beat. The fine adjustment for the beat is not at all necessary (if you have ever adjusted beat error you'll know this) and is there as decoration only IMO....
