Granted, Chris . . .

. . . discussion of G O and other manufacturers is perfectly alright with me, and I generally don't have a problem with fielding these sorts of questions, nor do I mind them being posted; my level of discomfort rises when the issues are narrowed down to a particular G O and a particular competitor, and it's compounded when the two are more dissimilar than alike, as in the match-up presented in this thread. Life would be much easier if I were truly impartial and could express my opinions without bias, but I'm all too aware of my own limitations, and truly dislike expressing opinions in favor of 'A' when there is an unstated implication that 'B' is inferior in some way; it's even worse when I have a measure of respect for 'B', as I have no desire to denigrate any worthy effort.

Similarly, I have no compunctions about discussing aesthetics when the subject is clearly and narrowly defined, but I feel even more squeamish when praising 'A' regarding purely subjective considerations . . . after all, I can't fathom the mystique surrounding Panerai, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Paneristis think I'm a dolt for not understanding their devotion. There's a fine line between being suggestive and appearing authoritative, and I certainly don't want anything I have to say about an essentially subjective matter being misinterpreted; sharing thoughts and opinions is what we're here for, and I hope we can continue our discussions in the tradition that Thomas Mao established when he created The Purists.
