cross brand comparisons

i'd like to offer a slightly different perspective on making cross brand comparisons, and i present this from basically a novice's perspective. 

although i've got a few go's and some other brands, and i read some of the magazines etc., i really don't know a heck of a lot about these things like many in the forum do.  so, when the comparison questions come up, i really appreciate them because i look forward to hearing knowledgeable people raise issues that either had not occured to me, or never would have.  perhaps the forum's not for the education of the uninitiated, but my reading of posts suggests the opposite: that discussion is welcome regardless of the writer's experience and knowledge, provided it's driven by a sincere interest in the watch.  so, when someone comes along and says what about x vs. this go i'm looking at, i'd be interested to hear how others would go about it. 

and the issue of aesthetics...yes it's personal.  but, if we all just quietly said aesthetics are personal and kept our thoughts to ourselves, then there'd be a lot less to say about the relative merits of praxiteles vs. micheangelo.  but, i think aesthetics are worth discussing, and, having read dr. no's rhapsodies on various go specimens, i have to say again that i personally benefit from hearing such discussions, whether they focus on only one brand, or different watches within a brand, or different watches across brands.  i think that such discussions, properly conceived and presented, can be illuminating and worthwhile.
