Here is my GP 2598 ivory dial with a new strap

Not bad looking for a 25 year old watch, yeah?

Vintage ? Nope …. It’s NEO-vintage … released in 1999 for 2 years. Sapphire crystal glass is used. Not plastic nor mineral glass.

800 pieces made so not extremely rare but also not seen often in the wild.

This is a central chronograph so you can see the central seconds hand in action in the video. Central chronographs are not seen that often any more.

From both a looks as well as a “value” perspective, I think this is a superb watch.

At 38 mm, with the curved sweep of the lugs, it’s a good fit for many wrist sizes.

Hands are heat blued and numerals are applied. Rectangular pushers that follow the curve of the case. This is not your run of the mill timepiece. Bi-compax sunken sub-registers. Right is running seconds and left is a 24-hour military time indicator. Details have been well thought out.

Neo-vintage pieces like this are intoxicating. They hold a certain charm and yet maintain the condition that many of us have become accustomed to. Accuracy, service and parts are not an issue. Mine runs at +-3 seconds a day.

For those who have been thinking about NEO-vintage, I think this is an excellent reference to start with.

As always, all questions and comments are welcomed.

Interesting that you mention the 2-tone

I was just thinking the same thing this morning as I took the pics. I typically associate 2-tone with a gold bezel or bracelet. Here, GP has achieved it with the hands and applied indices. It’s not very obvious as the contrast of gold on the ivory dial is...

Thanks m2. I was wearing this

when I went to see my watchmaker a few months ago. He like it and asked to try it on and he commented about the case. He said while it may look “simple”, he said that it’s not so easy to achieve the angles, bevels and transitions as one may think. 🤝 ...

A very nice example

I have been tempted on many occasions, especially in that color (the black dial is nice too but I prefer the ivory version, same for the 1945 vintage chrono).

Thanks Arronax. The time has

then to add it to your collection? I see that you are from Japan. There is an nice looking one on c24 from japan for sale. 🤝

Thanks Nico. A classic bi-compax

Within a classic GP case. The long curved lugs are an obvious tell that this is a GP from the Macaluso era. 🤝

The fact that neo-vintage pieces can look as good as new. When folks hesitate sometimes about some of these pieces, I ask them to imagine how much it would cost if GP was releasing them today within the current production collection. It’s a no brainer to ...

Interesting point

As you mentioned, GP had two finishing variants for the 2598. I like the all satin finished as well. It’s quite stealthy. The mixed finish like mine gives it a little more bling. If you want to make yours have a mixed polished and satin finish, it is quit...

Actually, polished surfaces are

easier to fix if any scratches compared to brushed surfaces. And it would not need a polish … just what we call a buff for it to change from brushed to polished. But to each their own of course. Just thought I would mention the option as you said you pref...

Excellent piece.

I also like center chronographs. They are easier to read at a glance. The colors of this GP are very appealing and case shape is superb. Thanks for posting. M4

Thanks M4. While I like many

in the current GP production offering, I’m hoping to share more about these neo-vintage pieces that at the very least, will give better perspective to the heritage that GP brings to the table. 🤝

Looking good Marc!

Smart choice with that strap pairing as well. What is the lug to lug and case thickness on this one? Cheers my friend !

Thanks Jesse. 2598 dimensions

Height=13.1 mm. It’s stepped so, never felt it to be a thick watch either. The lugs taper to conform with the wrist. Lug-to-lug 48.3. Lug width is … 21 mm Case Diameter is 38 mm 🤝
