Vintage 1970 Chronograph

Hello fellow GP enthusiasts,

After the introduction of my collection I can hear on the forum the request for more details on the individual pieces I own. I was planning to start with the Richeville Day/Night but I keep that for later.

For now, I want to have a closer look at the Ref 2598. This very sporty model is a wonderful piece to wear. It started its life as the “Vintage 1960” but was later relabeled as “Vintage 1970”. Mine is a later model with a Serial # 10xx and is labeled Vintage 1970.

My exact model has the full reference number 25980.0.11.815 where 25980 is the Model Reference, 11 is the case material (Stainless Steel) and the 815 is typically a reference for the dial style/colour. I have seen this particular model with pink gold case and cream dial as well.

Mine has the typical GP bracelet which is very comfortable to wear and looks classy.

Although this is quite a heavy watch, it feels light on the wrist. I particularly like to wear it on hot days in the summer.

The chronograph function and the layout of the dial are very well designed. I much prefer chronographs with 2 sub-dials as they look more harmonious. The sub-dials on this model however serve no chronograph function and rather provide small seconds and a very useful 24 hour dial. The actual chronograph time is displayed by two central hands with a seconds and minutes hand. A lot of people mistake this for a Rattrapante function, esp. as GP made a Rattrapante version of this Model as well (although the face of the Rattrapante is slightly different).

I don’t have much info on the actual movement used on this watch, but it is likely a GP modified ETA movement.

Some more pictures. Enjoy.
