Rolex ads and sports: Golf.
For several decades, I think we were many to follow some ads on National Geographic.
Music Directors, Golfers tennismen, racers, volcanologists.... All were shown wearing a Rolex.
As for golfers, it seems that The Day Date was the most popular:

More recently, a fresher Day Date on another golfer's wrist.
And when it is not a Day Date, it is a Datejust!
