Lets not forget, Rolex in 1953 also said they summitted Everest. Rolex marketing, appearance in publications, tradeshows, etc would have absolutely dwarfed Blancpain then as now, maybe moreso

Really like the work from Perezscope and while this article seems extra angry, some great points are made. However, need to include context, Rolex was (is) the king of marketing so while this might prove Rolex was right there in the running in 1953, I'm not sure this completely disproves Blancpain's claims. Rolex absolutely would have had way more resources to do marketing, tradeshows, print etc than Blancpain so you would expect to find more commercial coverage and documentation to survive the decades, forget about the fact that Blancpain ceased to operate for a while.
As for the patents, definitely good points, but perhaps back then as today, bigger companies had the resources to file whatever patents they liked whether or not they would use them while smaller companies had to think harder about the costs and may more likely have filed as needed.
I will say that given aggressive fake news Rolex created on the Edmund Hillary summit I would think if Rolex was first to the dive watch they would have made sure everyone knew about it just like Everest....
