Is it still the same car? the Porsche (Ship) of Thesus Paradox

A common philosophical debate about whether an object is the same object after having all of its original components replaced over time, typically one after the other. The DMV is interested in this debate too! In the US the debate is about the axe George Washington used to chop down a cherry tree. After replacement of the wooden handle twice, and the worn-down head once, and your daughter putting tape on the handle, is it still the same axe? So far I have managed to avoid it on Lotus and Citroens by dodging some of the restoration stepsโ€ฆ

I got involved in the restoration of one of the earliest 2CVs known, and believe me when the Frenchmen had it stripped, it was basically a maze of tubing with very few bits still attached.
