the winding difference between the old and new watch was so pronounced I turned over the watch and looked at the movement with a loop while winding; I was relieved to see the gear train and escapement moving. The feel of the two watches during winding could not be more different. To make it even more curious, I own a 1921 in white gold, using the same movement, and it winds totally differently. The 1921 is much easier to wind but makes no "clicking" sound and takes many more turns of the crown to fully wind the mainspring.

It may not change mechanically...
but the tension when winding is certainly different in the two watches.

Congrats first of all on your new piece. You’re right, the 4500 AS movement doesn’t make any noise when wound apart from the dial back when crown is released, or resistance when fully wound. It’s totally normal. Enjoy it.
