What I found fascinating in the x-ray is the length of the pin . . .

 

. . . which looks to be 6".  Denali pins, by way of comparison, are 2".  I described the x-ray to Bob, and his take is that Balabushka employed a long pin to impart forward balance to the cue.  Denali cues never employ weight bolts; balance is achieved by choice of wood types and joinery techniques.
