So this happened in... London?
Aug 22, 2022,14:42 PM
Our US-organized WatchTime LA 2022 event from May was cancelled by the host due to concerns about security of brands and collectors coming and going from the venue in Los Angeles -- which had not been a problem at the previous event in 2019.
The one common factor in all of these global luxury heists seems to be the ease of selling stolen goods online. I know that in the US, retailers in all price brackets are pushing for greater self-policing and government policy regulation of online platforms for this reason. So few of these thieves are "end users" that it seems more logical to go after any platform that that enables these sales and possibly the people who buy them.
By all means, arrest individual thieves if you catch them, but go after the source -- market forces that are encouraging theft, looting, and casing of valuables. As with drugs, the chance of ending illicit trade is close to zero percent as long as a robust market exists for the product.
Best,
Tim
