In the midst of COVID quarantine last year, my daughter said, "you should try rock climbing." Sure....why not!
Less than a year later, I took my biggest climbing challenge yet. With my daughter about to leave the nest for Grad School, we decided to have one last Daddy-Daughter adventure. We decided to climb Devils Tower in Wyoming.
I wasn't sure if, at age 55, this was the smartest life choice.
But, what the hell? Let's slay this beast!
As it turns out, the route we took (Durrance Route) wasn't "technically" difficult. Just a lot of gruel, grunting and groaning.
The entire climb took eight hours, but much of that was being slowed down by the team ahead of us.
The view at the top of each pitch was priceless!
Best of all? The view from the top. It's a sight that has to be earned, as there are no elevators or shortcuts. The only way up...is straight up.
