A true collector & man of wildly divergent interests
Sep 17, 2019,16:17 PM
Mark and I hit it off at our first meeting. He was fortunate to have earned a fair chunk of money and had enough time to indulge his interests. If I remember correctly he didn't drink alcohol or eat meat, so didn't dive into the richest ends of the culinary table ... but he knew how to have a good time.
At the IGOTT gathering in Las Vegas, on the far left in each photo
Cars, watches, and many other things fascinated him. For example, he had old Land Rovers, a Ferrari, deLorean, M-B, etc. plus wacky digital watches and high-end Classic watches. AP, JLC, FPJ, Omega, -- he even sent me on a wild goose chase to find a Baylor watch. He liked pens too.
He wrote once (or maybe he said it at this party):
“In my fridge right now there are enough cheeses to stock a small cart. They include the basics like parmesan, cheddar, cream cheese, and maytag blue. But I also have comté, an aged parmesan, der scharfe maxi, red leicester, mascarpone, and feta.
Recently my favorite has been Brillat-Savarin, a triple cream brie. There is none in my fridge right now because when I buy it it doesn't last more than a few hours before it is gone.”Definitely a Purist’s perspective! We enjoyed many discussions around these topics.
A few of his rides
He enjoyed driving his cars, but also used them around town where he was glad to find notes like this on the windscreen:
Below we have Mrsnak, Daos, Mark & Cazalea
RIP Mark

. . . aka Rovermark passed away a week ago. He was an active member of this community for several years, although not so much in the recent past. He was, however, a regular attendee of our So Cal alphabet soup gang gatherings, and his interest in horology...
Finally found a few pics of Mark in my files . . .

I never knew him but if we can ever hope to achieve a measure of immortality, it is through the words and memories of those who knew us. It sounds like he was a wonderful person. Taken too soon. Sad day!
Rest in Peace, Mark...

I had the good fortune to meet him about 9 or so years ago while visiting LA. He was extremely amicable to the point of even giving AndrewD and I a ride back to our hotel in his very cool vintage Land Rover. Condolences to all who knew and were near and d...

That is overwhelmingly sad, Art

And I even understand from Mikes post that he was a person who tried to live a healthy life. I feel so sorry for dear Mark. Christian
Very sad to hear the news.

He was true gentleman and a patron of the horological arts. May his soul rest in peace and we celebrate his life everyday here on the site talking about what he loved dearly. Bill
Very sad news.

Mark will be sadly missed by us, taken by this cruel disease that has no respect for anyone. Thankfully Art you went to see him before he left us, I’m sure that this will have been of great comfort to him to know that you and others cared. I have personal...

.... Mark was a beautiful and generous soul. He always brought the salty language factor and we loved him for it. A super great guy who will be missed. Tonight we raise our glasses to RoverMark. - Scott
