After voting we went walking

After voting, we cruised some obscure neighborhoods of the "Point" in the brilliant sunshine, and found a few interesting houses.

The first one is most definitely a new, and high-class place. But I'm not sure about the mismatch of chimney brick vs roofing vs stone facade. What do you think?

This is most definitely San Diego, standard issue starter house of the 1950's, much like the one I grew up in. Probably has an add-on bedroom behind the fence on the left. Less-affluent folks just filled in the garage for an extra bedroom when another child arrived (we did).

Just around the bend, this house has a bit more charm in the conical lid over the front entrance, golf cart in the fenced driveway,

and the lighthouse / barn / mailbox on the front porch.

Here's another 1950's entry-level house, with a bit of whimsey in the decorative concrete block screen (so popular in Palm Springs desert homes). I see the "double-glazing" salesman has been here, along with the Astro-Turf fake lawn guy and no doubt solar on the back side too.

We cruised down the alley and came across about 40 feet of vine-screened fence (I cut out the trash can enhanced section)

and just in case you are wondering my wife says these are the same vine, just in yellow, orange, pink and white varieties.

The hap-hazard effort on a tree-house is notable, as is the Little Library, and the Bare Leg table lamp in the window.

My wife took a break to visit the Little Library.

I asked for a break for a lovely tree. This is one of my favorites, and we made a U-turn to catch it from the proper angle.

I don't know if these are popular in other areas of the country but shingled homes make up a small percentage of local private residences. My former neighbor shingled his house because it was cheaper than redoing the stucco. But this looks like the original siding. We stopped so my wife could check out another Little Library -- nice that it matches the house. We didn't bother to inspect the contents though.

Another of my favorite trees! We have so very few mature trees in San Diego that big ones like this stick out.

A view looking West from The Big Tree.

A view looking NE from The Big Tree. The arrow is pointing at some tall buildings that are 5 miles away, according to my Distance tool. Mission Bay is in the middle.

We arrived home to find this lizard sunning himself on the driveway.  He didn't want to move, but looked back to see I wasn't going to step on him.

We walked past carefully, making sure our shadows didn't disturb the rays. He went back to dozing.

We end with Siding AND Shingles, Stained AND Beveled Glass.

Thanks for joining us today.
