TimeOut

Another Day, Same Neighborhood

Hello folks, today we build on our previous posting about the homes in University City. Saturday we fulfilled our promise to assist with the San Diego Floral Association's garden tour, as guides for Homes #2 and #4. We assisted visitors and prevented them from falling off canyon edges, rough steps or into cactus (or the owner's living rooms).

Home 4
We started at this 100-year old house, which has been in the care of its current owners for more than 40 years.

It's very green and pleasant place to be.

With a few tropical touches.

Like many of the homes in this area, it adjoins a canyon; so steep there is no safe path down, according to the owner who has tried a few times.

Many things in the garden featured local rocks turned into art work.

You could wander for an hour and not see every little corner.

Or piece of art.

The tropical corner.

A tiny newly-hatched dove cowered in her nest, head swiveling from right to left, wondering what the fuss was about. The mother sat outside on the patio roof, looking angrily at us.

A guest artist did a painting of these poppies, while we watched.

I didn't see her finished work, but my wife said it was amazing.

This was a very pretty, cool, and lush garden.

Apples too green to eat 😕

At this point I just standing around taking pictures, so was asked to help house #2 because they had dangerous paths and not enough docents. So off I went, only one block away but a different canyon.

As we move now to House #2 I will start another file -- Part #2.

On the way I walked by the house where I saw a squirrel climbing over their gate. I could swear I would have noticed that English telephone box ... but I didn't remember seeing it.

So I asked a neighbor "How long has that telephone box been there?" She replied, "About 24 hours" and I felt better.
