The yellow gold 40mm is a great choice (see photo, I did try it too and think that with the new
black dial is really stunning) but obviously the rose gold is a fantastic choice too !!!
About the Day-Date II : obviously Rolex knows better and decided to go to a more reasonable 40mm
perhaps because the sales of the day-date II were not moving ..but I still think that the day-date II is not too
that big and 1mm difference is not that big. It is an iconic piece and I am totally in love with the diamond/ruby dial.
It has a lot of presence and is really a modern re-interpretation of a classic.
The new 40mm rose gold doesn't come with a black dial (as of now but it might be added later) and I really wanted to
get the II as it won't be produced anymore ...so who knows in a few years it might turn out to be a bit more sought after

Hello Jeff, I agree that the overall balance is indeed different - I think it has to do with the case construction that is somehow slimmer too so it is not really about the 1mm but as you suggest a number of improvements (including the movement of course)...
