I didnt realize the new everose gold is more champagne in color until I see your comparison pics. I prefer the everose color on yours smile

Ruby and Diamond colors match this everose gold color well, I like it too smile

Congrats once again and enjoy your new watch in the best of health! You are building a very nice collection! Bravo!

Cheers

All Rolexes are beautiful, but some more beautiful than others. The DD2 for me was out of proportion to the
original 36mm, that being said since the new 40mm on it's way the proportions are truer to the original design.
I have a new 40mm in yellow on order, but I've always been partial to rose and will have to see both before
I make my final decision. Enjoy your new DD2, I must also say also during the course of this conversation that
I hate the "blocky" cases of the Submariner etc., that's why i bought a DeepSea because the lugs are far less obvious.

yellow gold 40mm a great choice! but still...

Hello Jeffrey,
Thanks for your comments!

The yellow gold 40mm is a great choice (see photo, I did try it too and think that with the new
black dial is really stunning) but obviously the rose gold is a fantastic choice too !!!

About the Day-Date II : obviously Rolex knows better and decided to go to a more reasonable 40mm
perhaps because the sales of the day-date II were not moving ..but I still think that the day-date II is not too
that big and 1mm difference is not that big. It is an iconic piece and I am totally in love with the diamond/ruby dial.

It has a lot of presence and is really a modern re-interpretation of a classic.

The new 40mm rose gold doesn't come with a black dial (as of now but it might be added later) and I really wanted to
get the II as it won't be produced anymore ...so who knows in a few years it might turn out to be a bit more sought after wink

As you say the one mm difference is almost undetachable, but it's the balance of the design
overall that truly makes the difference. Also, the new movement and the new bracelets construction
all add up a much more attractive product, but these are my observations and appeal to me, but they
must also appeal to the hierarchy at Rolex, that NEVER does anything without throughly testing
those changes. Ultimately it's a matter of personal choice...

Jeff: agreed! but...

Hello Jeff,
I agree that the overall balance is indeed different - I think it has to do with the case construction that is somehow slimmer too
so it is not really about the 1mm but as you suggest a number of improvements (including the movement of course).

Rolex probably has a lot of data and probably since its launch in 2008 the day-date II didn't fly as much as they wanted. I have heard that the reason for the changes are also driven by making it more of a unisex model vs. the day-date II that is less wearable.

I would say that the biggest difference is in the platinum model: the day-date II platinum was really heavy and a bit chunky but the new 40mm is more wearable. The new dials are very nice too.

This said I love the day-date II with the ruby/diamond combination and I love to buy watches that have something special or are not as widely available. Very subjective indeed and I still that a few rolex owners still love the day-date II and wouldn't change it for the 40mm. Who knows? may be in the future it will turn out to be a good "investment" smile

That's a heck of a watch you have there!  Absolutely stunning.  I agree that it's not the most discrete watch, but, sometimes, it's fun to cast discretion aside and opt for a bit of tasteful opulence.  All good fun, no?

Regards

thank you! discretion is great but...

It can be a bit boring too smile -- I still love my 36mm platinum day-date but I couldn't resit the day-date ii knowing that it
is now discontinued. Sometimes and in the right place it is good to set discretion aside and just enjoy life. Nothing wrong
to show a certain taste for nice watches. Of course it much depends on where you live and what you do!!

For me it is now a daily wearer but I mostly go to the office and back so not a lot of adventures smile

You are right: the dial is what makes the watch special. Will wear it as much as I can!

Congrats with your (very bold) watch!

I'm not into the 41 mm Rolex watches. Feel those designs are 'off' in some weird way. I'm also not into diamonds on watches. That just seems wrong. But I have to honestly say that I love this watch. It would be my guilty pleasure watch. The king of guilty pleasure (when talking watches). Will I ever wear one? Don't think so.

Enjoy!

This is not the most versatile watch and I also think that among rolex loves is a bit too much. The day-date II by
itself was not sufficiently loved I think..else Rolex would have not replaced it with the 40mm.  Thanks for your kind
comments glad that you liked the photos.
